Hey guys,

Well, many people have asked me about the light set I use in my promo images, how I light, if they can obtain a copy of it.... So, I decided to release it for public use (with huge improvements).

The purpose of Easy Modeling And Morphing With Blender is to turn any complete 3D beginner into someone who will be able to easily create and even texture his own models, and also to easily create morphs and modifications for already existing Daz Studio - or other - models, all this using in the free 3D application : Blender.

In order to provide the most efficient learning curve for everybody, the tutorial comes in two versions, a paper (pdf) version, and a set of height video files. The paper version includes a summary which is completely both bookmarked and linked to the pages of the document. For the videos, a detailed table of content is included in the product, so that when you search for an information, you can find it in the blink of an eye the exact video and the exact time code for it.

Too often, people give up using Blender because they find it difficult to learn, probably because Blender can do so many things : modeling, texturing, rendering, animation, physics, particles, game engine... I learnt Blender alone seven years ago, and I use it today to create all my content, and I can tell you this is a very easy to use and efficient 3D modeling software.

In this tutorial not only I share what I learnt, but I also guide you precisely into the process of learning Blender in a methodic way, so that you progressively understand the key bases of this software, always focusing on what you need to create models and morphs for Daz Studio.

You will learn step by step how to customize and move in the interface, to move in the 3D View, to select objects and parts of mesh, to add or removes objects or parts of mesh, to edit and transform objects and selections in the meshes. Knowing all that, two examples of modeling of basic objects, and two examples of morphing figures will allow you both to use once again all you learnt, but also to introduce some new elements, such as UV editing and texture painting. Of course the tutorial explains the import/export settings between Daz Studio and Blender, and how to save properly in Daz Studio the content created, prop or morph, for later use or for content sharing/selling.

You may simply want to complete a scene with an object which you cannot find on the market, or maybe create a unique character of your own by developing the morph you imagine for him or her. You may eventually want to adjust some outfits either in order to remove poke through or to provide to them an unequaled touch or realism. You may also like to go from simple 3D hobbyist to professional 3D content creator. Whatever the case you are in, you will find the all keys you need to reach your goal in these tutorials.

UltraScatter is an advanced instancing tool for DAZ Studio. Instances are somewhat like clones of objects in your scene that take up very little memory. Using UltraScatter you can place thousands of instances over the surface of another object in your scene quickly and efficiently.

January 2018 update : Scene Optimizer [Commercial]

The Scene Optimizer is a set including several tools, Scene Optimizer first, and then Store and Restore Maps Scripts.

Scene Optimizer is a three tabbed interface dedicated help you to to lower the memory requirement and/or speed up renders and/or get a more responsive viewport by acting on various levels : maps resolution, "useless" maps removal, translucency removal, visibility, mesh resolutions, instances management.

Store Maps can store in a text file all the paths of the maps used in your scene so that you can restore them later on, using the Restore Maps scripts, on any selected node or surface of your scene. Store and Restore maps scripts can also be used for LIE baking or maps set swapping.

They work for both Iray and 3Delight, even if optimization necessits more efforts and is less efficient on 3Delight. The most impressive result is when Scene Optimizer manages to "fit in your video board" an Iray Scene which was initially too big for it.

I open this thread for anybody with remarks or questions about any of the scripts included. I hope this tool will help you.

SCENE OPTIMIZER SCRIPTS REQUIRE DAZ STUDIO 4.9.3.29 OR ABOVE

January 2018 update is live !

As some of you may have noticed, there are more and more png with alpha transparency used for make up or the eyebrows of Genesis 8 females. The map reduction of these, due to the transparency, often leads to a "black face" phenomenon. The logical solution should be to unchek the checkbox in the interface "Also reduce LIE maps / Also replace on surfaces png files with alpha transparency by their lower resolution version (see comments bottom of this tab)" and rerun the script, but it presently does not work, because until today, if the "black map" has already been created, it is loaded anyway, unless you physically remove the "black reduced image" from the content folder.

The bug which this january update solves is this bug : if you already had reduced these maps with transparency, then they were reloaded even if you unchecked the checkbox mentioned above. After this update (to be submitted before the 11th of january), this box will be unchecked by default, and the automatic load of the reduced maps with transparency will be disabled. This will prevent the "black face" phenomenon and if, by error, you check this box and the face becomes black after running the script, then you simply have to undo the script in Daz Studio, and re-run it without checking the box. The counterpart will be that the maximum width and height displayed by the interface for your figure will remain unchanged since the size of the maps with transparency will not change.

The update is ready, I still want to test a few cases of figures and then prepare the update package before submission. Believe me I'm sorry about this issue.

This face morph resource kit consists of 90 morphs to alter the face of Genesis 8 Male based characters.

Make your characters more unique. All sections of the face are covered.

Several face presets are included as well. Use them as a base for further adjustments or as they are.

Whether you want only subtle changes or more intense ones. It can be done with this product.

All morphs are dial controlled and can be individually dialed in and combined (also with morphs from other products) to get the results you want. You can just adjust the default Genesis 8 Male Base Character's Face or also adjust other characters to make them more unique.

There are almost endless possibilities to adjust the face. In the promos we show some usage samples. All are created using the default Genesis 8 Male Base Character (without any other morphs used).

Since this product is also a Merchant Resource you can even use it to create your own custom face morphs / shapes to be used in your commercial products. Please refer to the Readme for Merchant Resource usage terms.

Oso Fur Shaders for Iray [Commercial]

Huzzah, it's live!

This is something I've been working on, sporadically, since December. Nice to finally make it available.

 

What is it?

Displacement fur.

There are a number of other products that use displacement maps to create fur-like effects. The big limitation they have is that a single noise map to generate hairs can't easily also control how long that hair is over a figure.

Oso Fur uses a procedural generation of noise to generate the fur, and then also has a fur length map. In this way you can easily create a map where the fur is longest around the torso then gets very thin around the face and hands.

How good is it?

It's displacement based, which in Iray has certain limitations. Displacement in Iray moves the points of a mesh, so it needs a decent density of a mesh and a reasonably consistent size of polygons over the target.

For example, I attempted to use it on a pillow and discovered most of the surface of the pillow were large squares, with many many many tiny polygons along the edge. Which is a good design, but not great for displacement; the 'fur' looked really nice along the edges and lumpy on the top.

Also, displacement goes straight out. There's no way to make fur 'lie flat.'

All that said, it can look very realistic, particularly if the underlying figure's texture synergizes with fur.

It's also significantly faster than just about every other fur technology I've tried, like LAMH and fibermesh. Also, it adds very little to file size, unlike the GB a modeled fur will generate.

 

I really hope people enjoy this and experiment with their own maps. Create a high density sphere and make it furry!

This set contains 6 custom body and 6 custom head shapes to be used with Genesis 8 Male to turn him into a boy of different ages and look.

Included are lots of control dials, morphs for the head and body and also several ready-to-go presets. The body and head / face shapes include custom morphs. You can either use the full shape, partial body or head presets or the dials for maximum and step-less control. You can even mix the different dials to get complete new shapes. If you like save your own shape presets to be used later again. Lots of adjustment options and dials enable you to tweak the shapes even further. Adjustments controls for legs, neck, head etc. are included as well.

You can even use the controls with other characters to make their appearance younger or mix them with other morph packs.
